Villager slain in Narathiwat drive-by shooting

A civilian was murdered in a drive-by shooting in the southern border province of Narathiwat late Thursday night

The victim, identified later as Sukree Mahae, 24, was found lying in a pool of blood on a local road in Khok Sumu village in tambon Bang Por of Muang district, Pol Col Manit Yimsai, chief of Narathiwat  police, said.

Police said he was returning home on foot about 10pm when two men travelling on motorcycle went passed and the pillion gunman fired two shots. Sukree was hit twice in the back and died on the spot.

Police were still investigating, but said insurgents may be to blame.
