Nearly a quarter of all public complaints filed about government services this year allege shoddy work or criminal activity by police.

Rights and Liberties Protection Department chief Narat Sawettanat said on Tuesday said 122 of about 500 complaints filed from January to April accuse police of malfeasance or poor job performance, including hasty investigations and false arrest.

Col Narat said there had also been complaints asking authorities to investigate police who arrested people on drug charges during raids that failed to find any drugs.

The department chief spoke after a meeting on the complaints with commanders and deputy commanders from the Office of Inspector-General's 10 regional offices, including senior officers in the Far South, Thai media reported Tuesday.

During the meeting, participants also discussed establishing one-stop service centres at police stations for victims in criminal cases to file compensation claims.

The proposed one-stop centres would cut compensation procedures and enable more victims in criminal cases to make claims under the Compensation and Expense for the Accused in Criminal Case Act.
