Five loud revellers drinking under a flyover received the shock of their lives when their vehicle and its pumped-up sound system burst into flames in Don Muang district, Bangkok, early on Friday.

Firefighters were called to the burning Isuzu truck, parked under a flyover next to Phahon Yothin 66 Road, where Don Muang district adjoins Khu Khot sub-district of Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani, about 4.50am.

They took about 20 minutes to put out the fire. The flames leapt high above the Bangkok-registered truck, scorching the road above and the flyover was closed to protect other motorists.

Local residents said about five men had arrived in the four-door silver pickup truck, parked underneath the road and began drinking and partying. They turned the sound system up and noisily carried on through the early morning.

Shortly before 5am, white smoke began billowing out from under the bonnet. As flames emerged the men tried to put out the blaze but to no avail. The flames engulfed the whole truck in no time and the drunken party-goers fled.

Police had yet to track down the burnt-out vehicle's owner. They assumed the fire was started by an electrical fault when the circuits overheated after the music had been cranked up for several hours.
