The rail line from the main southern route to Kanchanaburi will be closed for repairs for two months starting on Monday but the closure will not cover the popular Death Railway sector.
The State Railway of Thailand said the section that runs from the southern line at Nong Pladuk junction in Bang Pong district of Ratchaburi to Kanchanaburi station would be out of service from June 1 to July 31.
New sleepers and tracks will be installed along the 53-kilometre as part of a nationwide plan to improve safety and increase speeds, it added.
But the two-month closure will not affect regular services from Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok station in Sai Yok district. The sector is known among local and foreign tourists as the Death Railway crossing the famous River Kwai Bridge.
Four daily train services on the Death Railway will continue to operate, the railway agency said.
The Kanchanaburi train line has been prone to accidents because of its ageing tracks.
