Foreman falls to death inspecting house

A 46-year-old foreman fell to his death while inspecting a four-story house under construction in Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district on Monday night, police said.

The body of Udon Akkharabut, technical foreman of New & Feel Service Co, was found lying face down   near the stairs on the first floor of the house, being built on Phahol Yothin Road in tambon Khlong Nueng, said Pol Lt Chaiyan Khunnarak, a duty officer at Khlong Luang police station, Thai media reported on Tuesday.

Police were informed of the accident about 10.30pm on Monday. Udon, who was wearing jeans, a vest and socks without shoes, had serious head injuries and a broken right arm, police said. His body was sent to Thammasat Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Construction worker Charnwit Plaungploy, 36, told police that he and three other men worked with Mr Udon at the house since Monday morning. About 8pm they finished work and had a meal. Before leaving the site, the foreman told them he was going up to the second floor to  inspect the work, Mr Charnwit said. 

Shortly aftrer they heard the sound of something falling. They ran to investigate and found  Udon's body lying on the first floor.

Police said it appeared he had fallen down the stairs while descending from the second floor. There was no handrail, the area was dark and he did not have a flashlight.

They were investigating.
