A cleaner at Suvarnabhumi Airport has been given 50,000 baht as a reward for his honesty after he returned 100,000 baht to a Thai businessman who lost the cash in the airport’s car park building.

The story was revealed on Wednesday by Sirot Duangrat, director of Suvarnabhumi airport.

He said Boonserm Wilaipak, an employee of ISS Facility Service Co, was cleaning the fourth floor of a Zone 3 car park on the morning of May 26 when he spotted a stack of 1,000-baht-banknotes on the ground at 4D pillar,

Mr Sirot then alerted his superior and the airport’s security centre about the find and handed in the money which was given to the Lost & Found counter. He then went to Suvarnabhumi Airport police station and asked officers to record the incident in the police blotter to help find the owner.

Police checked CCTV camera footage and found a Bangkok-registered white Lexus parked near the spot where Mr Boonserm discovered the cash.

They used information on the car’s licence plate to contact the owner, identified later as Surachai Leelathanamongkol. Police questioned Mr Surachai and were able to confirm he was the owner of the money.

Mr Surachai came to pick up the money yesterday and gave half of the amount to Mr Boonserm to thank him and to recognise his good deed, Mr Sirot said.
