The cabinet has approved the appointment of Ampon Kittiampon, secretary to the cabinet, as chairman of the board of the Bank of Thailand for the second term.

Mr Ampon served in that capacity from Sept 2, 2013 and his term ended on May 31, 2015.

Deputy Prime Minister MR Pridiyathorn Devakula had approved the appointment earlier and asked the Finance Ministry to propose the appointment to the cabinet.

Mr Ampon is one of the most well-known faces at Government House since he has served as secretary to the cabinet for seven governments in a row, starting from the one led by Thaksin Shinawatra to the Prayut Chan-o-cha government at present.

He is the most senior civil servant since he is the longest-serving C-11 civil servant.

His career was considered to be at its peak when he concurrently held the positions of chairman of the board of Thai Airways International and the Bank of Thailand in 2012.
