The body of a 65-year-old Canadian man who had been missing since Tuesday after renting a boat in Pattaya was found floating off Koh Larn, a popular island off the resort town, on Thursday.

The man was, identified by his Thai girlfriend as Jean Caroche, a Canadian national.

He was found floating face-down between Koh Larn and Koh Jun, said Pol Lt Veerayut Kangkala, a duty officer at Pattaya police station in Chon Buri, who was alerted around 11.30am on Thursday.

The 65-year-old Canadian man was wearing only black swimming trunks when found, police said.

Alusa Sondee, 31, his girlfriend, told police Caroche had rented a boat from a stall on the beach on Tuesday.

When he had not returned to shore by the evening she became worried and asked local people to help find him. They searched but found only the empty rented boat.

Police have contacted the Canadian embassy to notify his relatives.
