Metered taxi services are now available at Mae Sot airport in Tak province, as part of preparations for the launch of the Asean Economic Community (AEC), the Cooperative Promotion Department chief said on Friday.
The Mae Sot cooperative has provided 10 metered taxi cabs to serve Thai and foreign tourists at the airport, Opat Klunbutr, director-general of the department, said after attending the launch of the new service in the northern border district.
The Land Transport Department recently granted permission to the Mae Sot cooperative to use metered taxis at the airport, with 10 cabs registered in the initial stage, said Mr Opat.
The cooperative, registered on March 10, 1980, runs four types of business – general service, loan service, fuel sales and a deposit service.
It has a total of 275 vehicles and has concessions from the Land Transport Department to operate seven routes in Mae Sot.
Mae Sot and nearby districts are considered one of important gateways to the AEC, which is due to launch at the end of this year.
