Sand miner accused of encroaching on Nan River

An inquiry has been launched into alleged encroachment on the Nan River by a sand miner in Uttaradit province.

It was ordered by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

He recently signed an order instructing Muang district chief Sumit Kerdklam, the provincial marine office in Phrae and Ngiew Ngam tambon municipality to investigate the alleged encroachmen, Uttaradit deputy governor Veerachai Poopiangjai said on Tuesday.

The probe followed complaints the operator of a sand mine along the Nan River in tambon Ngiew Ngam of Uttaradit’s Muang district had encroached on the important watercourse in building living quarters for workers and creating a storage area for sand and gravel.

A source at the Ngiew Ngam tambol committee said an initial investigation concluded the sand miner had  trespassed on 20 rai. The inquiry is continuing and the findings will be forwarded to a provincial panel.
