The Criminal Court on Wednesday gave disgraced former Central Investigation Bureau chief Pongpat Chayapan yet another two years in jail, this time for buying stolen items.

The latest verdict initially carried a four-year term for the convicted ex-CIB chief, but the sentence was reduced by half due to his confession.

This is a seventh conviction for Pol Lt Gen Pongpat, bringing his total jail time to 36 years and three months.

Pol Lt Gen Pongpat was found guilty of buying seven half-sized statues of King Rama V worth 700,000 baht that were stolen from two private homes in Bangkok's Chatuchak district and Nonthaburi's Pakkred from Oct 9 to Dec 21, 2013.

Pol Lt Gen Pongpat and alleged members of a criminal network - police officers and civilians - were last year slapped with various charges including violating Section 112 of the Criminal Code, or lese majeste law, plus demanding and accepting bribes, malfeasance, money laundering, and illegal possession of protected woods and historical artefacts .
