Images and a video clip showing actress Pattaratida "Tangmo" Patcharaveerapong being treated in hospital for a reported sleeping pill overdose after an apparent suicide attempt shocked online users and rapidly went viral from Monday night.

The actress is under treatment at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital and has been declared safe, Thai media reported.

Her friend and variety talk show host Paeza Pichaipusit posted on his Instragram “paezaa_pb” two photos and the clip of the actress, wearing a military-style jacket, asleep on a hospital bed in the intensive care unit on Monday night.

The first image had a caption saying:

“Heartily speaking, since I know Tangmo, she may have done something wrong. But what I feel is there is also a good side to her. Now, she has a family problem that I don’t want to get involved with. However, I could not stand seeing my friend like this,’’ said the message.

The clip showed Tangmo crying while receiving medical help. The second image also had a caption:

"I don’t want to speak of what she has done this morning. But I want to thank God for helping her at a time she was weak. God came to her rescue. Tangmo feels guilty before God and her parents. When she regains consciousness, don’t blame her. I believe that my friend is a true worshipper of love. She is willing to sacrifice her life for Tono.’’

Tono is the nickname of her ex-fiancé, popular actor and singer Pakin Khamwilaisak.

Thairath Online quoted one of her close friends as saying Tangmo took a pack of sleeping pills on  Monday night and sliced one of her wrists. Her friend said she did not know why.

Reporters could not reach Tono for comment.

However, rumours spread that Tono’s announcement during his music concert at Impact Arena on July 4-5 that he was single again might have triggered his ex-girlfriend’s actions.

Tangmo admitted before the press later on Monday that she did try to kill herself by taking sleeping pills and cutting her wrist but the wound was not so deep.

She said she could not stand Tono leaving her and refusing to answer her calls in the past two months but her romance was only part of her problems. She said she also had difficulties about her work.

She admitted the suicidal attempt was a mistake and she regretted it.

The actress and her former singer boyfriend were regular demonstrators during the anti-amnesty bill protests in 2013. Their relationship gradually developed and they announced their engagement in December 2013.  Their relationship recently turned sour.

Above is the engagement video of Tangmo and Tono on Dec 11, 2013 (11/12/13).
