NAKHON SAWAN — Four Education Ministry officials have been left in shock after stopping at their three-storey office on Sunday to find almost every piece of electrical wiring had been ripped out of the walls and stolen.

The theft in which other office items were stolen was discovered late Sunday morning at the three-storey townhouse which is the headquarters for an academic support centre in Muang Nakhon Sawan district.

Watcharaporn Paewchaisong, 24, a centre staff member, said she and three colleagues went to the office to collect some documents and found electrical wiring ripped out everywhere, from the first floor to the third, leaving only wiring attachments scattered about.

Broken light bulbs were strewn across the floor.

The thieves also stole a Dell laptop computer and 2,400 baht in cash.

Ms Watcharaporn said the cable thieves caused a huge amount of damage. The office was opened only about a year ago and has not been equipped with CCTV cameras.

Muang Nakhon Sawan police investigator Joonlachit Prompiang believes there were at least two thieves and they possibly had access the building as there appeared to be no signs of a break-in.

A cigarette butt was found on the first floor near a clerk's desk, indicating the thieves were not in hurry and the incident may have occured at night.

Pol Capt Joonlachit said eight people work in the office and all would be questioned.

Forensic police would examine the scene and collect fingerprints and other evidence tomorrow, he added.
