Drunk drives boat up onto Pattaya beach

A double-deck passenger boat was driven up onto a Pattaya beach, Chon Buri, by a very drunk man on Sunday night, sending tourists fleeing, but luckily no one was hurt.

Pattaya police received a report around midnight that a large boat was sitting on the beach, nose in the  sand and with its engine running. Police and rescue team went to the scene in tambon Nong Preu of Bang Lamung district in Chon Buri.

Police said the boat, which had seating for 47 passengers, had been sitting on the beach with the engine stil going for more than three hours, according to witnesses, and nobody had left the vessel.

The police boarded the boat and found the driver, aged 45-50 years, in a very drunken state. He refused to get off the boat and paced back and forth.  

A witness said the boat had run up onto the beach around 8pm on Sunday, sending tourists sitting in the area running for safety. No one was hurt.

A duty officer at Pattaya police station said on Monday there was no record of the man having been charged overnight and he was probably just give some "verbal advice".
