Road closures Aug 2 for royal bike rehearsal

Bangkok motorists are advised to avoid 24 roads which will be closed on Aug 2 for a run-through of the government-sponsored "Bike for Mom 2015" cycle ride.

Sections of the 24 roads will be declared off-limits to all vehicles on both inbound and outbound lanes from noon to 9pm, the Traffic Control and Command Center of the Royal Thai Police announced on Tuesday.

The Sunday Aug 2 rehearsal will be run from beginning to end, same as the real event due to take place two weeks later on Aug 16. 

Major routes and areas of the 24 road closures include Phaya Thai Road (Ratchathewi intersection - Phaya Thai intersection – Victory Monument), Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue (Misakawan intersection - King Rama V Equestrian Monument intersection), Soi Rang Nam, Ratchawithi Road (Tukchai Intersection - Victory Monument - Din Daeng Triangle intersection), Ratchaprarop Road (Ratchaprarop intersection - Ratchawithi intersection) and Si Ayutthaya Road (Wat Benchamabophit intersection - Phaya Thai intersection).

Other roads closures include sections of Din Daeng, Phahon Yothin,  Sutthisan and Vibhavadi Rangsit, Rama V, Rama VI, Kamphaeng Phet 5, Uthong Nai and Sawankhalok roads.

On Aug 16, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will lead a bike ride on a 43-kilometre route from Dusit Palace to the 11th Infantry Regiment King's Guard on Phahon Yothin Road, and return, to mark the 83rd birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
