Smartphone parts maker recruiting laid-off workers

NAKHON RATCHASIMA – Workers at Samsung Electro Mechanic Co who have been made redundant are being recruited by a company producing parts for smartphones.

Samsumg has laid off almost 2,000 workers, with the biggest group chopped last week, as the company plans to close its Korat operation at the end of this year.

The worried laid-off workers suddenly have the prospect of  job openings before them, as P&N Subcontractor Co, a company under Minibea Lop Buri, has begun recruiting to fill over 3,000 new jobs.

Theerasak Khonklaew, human resources manager of P&N, said the has a factory producing electronic parts with assembly lines similar to Samsung's and is expanding production. When P&N learned about the redundancies at Samsung, it sent recruiters to Nakhon Ratchasima land set up a booth to make it easier for new  employees to sign up.

In only three days the company has registered 150 new workers and would remain open to job applicants until the end of July.

Under its offer, workers will get a 300 baht daily wage with overtime and hard-work per diem, free  uniforms and meals and accommodation.
