SONGKHLA - Authorities detained 45 illegal street racers, known as Vanz Boys and Sagoi Girls, and seized 31 motorcycles in Hat Yai on Saturday night.

More than 100 soldiers and police joined forces to crack down on motorcycle street racers on Rat Uthit Road.

Thirty-six young men and nine women were detained during the crackdown. Many of them were below 20 years of age.

Pol Col Triwit Sriprapa, deputy commander of Songkhla Provincial Police, said the operation was carried out, following residents' and road users' complaints that the street racing gang got together almost every weekend on Rat Uthit Road, creating loud noises and breaking traffic regulations.

Pol Col Triwit said their parents were called and told to keep their children away from illegal street racing. All the 31 motorbikes remained confiscated.
