An oil tanker exploded and burst into flames in Uttaradit’s Tron district on Sunday morning, burning the driver to death.

The 18-wheel truck, carrying 39,000 litres of fuel, overturned on Highway No.11 at Noen Sawan village in tambon Nam Ang, said Pol Capt Thewa Aransot, a duty officer at Tron police station.

Ten fire trucks and firefighters were deployed to the scene to combat the blaze, which spread quickly. Firemen had to use chemical foam to douse the flames, which engulfed the tanker. It took them more than three hours to bring the blaze under control, Thai media reported.

Driver Jintakarn Srilert, 30, was found burned to death inside the oil tanker.

Police said the truck was travelling from Phitsanulok to Chiang Mai when it overturned in Tron district. Damage was estimated at least 3 million baht.
