1 killed, 19 hurt in merit-making bus tour crash

One passenger was killed and 19 others injured when a tour bus carrying people on a merit-making trip to a temple in Kalasin overturned in the northeastern province’s Na Khu district on Monday, police said.

The bus was carrying mostly elderly people from Nakhon Phanom’s Si Songkhram district to make merit at a temple in Kalasin’s Huay Mek district.

It overturned on a curve as it was on the way down Phu Phan mountain on Srang Kho-Na Khu road in Kalasin on Monday evening.

Police said the force of the impact killed a 60-year-old woman. Nineteen other people were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.  Bus driver Khambai Udomkan, 66, was held for questioning.

Police were investigating.
