Man surrenders over stray dog killings

Surat Thani: A man accused of animal cruelty for shooting two stray dogs dead surrendered to Phunphin district police Tuesday.

Police summoned Staporn Promtas, 21, after Thanyarat Prommakorn, 37, requested police take legal action against the man for allegedly shooting three stray dogs which she had looked after in front of her house.

Two dogs were killed, while a third was injured. Mr Staporn allegedly admitted to the killings, saying he was angry they had attacked and killed his chickens on Saturday.

Police have charged the man with having an unlicensed firearm and breaking the law on animal welfare. Prosecutors will now consider whether to take the man to court. If found guilty, he could face two years in prison and a 40,000-baht fine.
