Seer slammed for photo of 'miracle' monk

Renowned fortune teller Luck "Mor Luck" Rekhanithet has come under fire after he shared a photo of a Buddhist monk performing a "miracle" on social media.

Mor Luck, who is known for his fun thong (cut the flag) punchline after making predictions, posted three pictures of Phra Maha Boonchuay, a revered monk at Wat Suan Lamyai in Lamphun province, on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

One of the pictures shows the monk standing on the shoreline as the water seems to part around his feet.

"Phra Maha Boonchuay, from Wat Suan Lamyai in Lamphun, has such great power with merit and virtuethat he can divide seawater," the seer wrote.

After the post went viral, Thai social media members debated whether it was a miracle or just a natural occurrence.

A Facebook user wrote that he believed the monk was performing a miracle as the currents were not strong enough to create ripples.

However, another netizen commented that Mor Luck should not drag Phra Maha Boonchuay into the realm of "superstition", as the monk did not intend to perform any miracle.

Other Facebook users posted pictures of other beachgoers standing around in water showing similar patterns, and asked whether they too have holy power.

On Wednesday, Mor Luck posted a new message saying he did not intend to mislead anyone, but he wanted to clarify "the truth" to the people.

"All in all, belief and faith made me post (that) yesterday," Mor Luck wrote.
