Bank trio vanish with B20m from ATMs

KHON KAEN — Police are searching for three bank workers suspected of stealing almost 20 million baht destined for Krung Thai Bank ATMs in this northeastern province.

Thawatchai Samranbamrung, Sompote Singsom and Surasak Prasertsank, employees of the bank subsidiary KTB General Services (KTBGS), are wanted on embezzlement and theft charges.

KTBGS representative Wanchai Srikungtong filed a formal complaint with police in Muang district on Saturday.

Krung Thai Bank reported earlier that 19.7 million baht in cash was missing as it could not be found in transaction records of the 17 ATMs in the municipality between Monday and Friday.

Noppadol Petsuth, superintendent of the Muang district police station, said that KTBGS suspected the three men who had been assigned by its Khon Kaen branch on those days to deliver the money to supply the ATMs. They have not been seen since the irregularity was detected, he said.

Khon Kaen police have alerted Provincial Police Region 4 authorities responsible for the northeastern region to locate the trio.

Pol Col Noppadol said the latest information indicated that the men were in Nong Khai province and might be attempting to cross the Mekong River to Laos with the money.
