Abundant rain forecast, warnings in North, Northeast

With a low pressure system covering the borders of Myanmar and Laos, and a moderate southwest moonsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea, all of Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, abundant rain is expected throughout the country with isolated heavy falls in the North and the Northeast, the Meteorological Department announced on Monday.

People in the following provinces should be prepared for possible flash floods: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan and Tak in the North; and Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bung Kan, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom in the Northeast.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, there was a heavy downpour in Muang district for about 30 minutes on Sunday night, causing many roads to be flooded with rainwater.

Areas in front of The Mall department store, the Hua Thalay intersection, Soi Det Udom, in front of Save One Market, and along the Mitrapap road in the city were about 30 centimetres under water and impassable to small vehicles.

The flood water receded soon after the rain stopped.

Steady, heavy rain was also reported  in Muang district of Buri Ram last night.
