A British man was killed and 11 others injured when a pickup truck driven by his wife collided with another vehicle in Trat early Friday.

The crash occurred in Khao Saming district as the couple was taking family members to Koh Chang, said Pol Lt Pokkorn Muensikhiew, a duty officer at the Khao Saming police station, who was alerted around 5am today.

Police and rescue workers rushed to the Bang Kradan intersection in tambon Saentung where they found 12 injured people, two of whom were lying on the road, seriously hurt. Among them was Briton Paul Flood, 55, who was pronounced dead shortly later.

Two vehicles involved in the crash -- an Isuzu pickup with a Nong Bua Lam Phu license plate, and a Mazda pickup with a Trat licene plate -- were damaged. A shell covering the bed of the Isuzu pickup was torn off.

Wattana Sinuan, 35, driver of the Mazda and among the injured, told police that he was driving to work in downtown Rayong when the Isuzu suddenly cut in front off his vehicle. He tried to brake, but failed to stop in time.

Chaliew Flood, 33, said her Isuzu was carrying 10 family members to visit Koh Chang. Among them were five children.

She was about to turn right when the speeding pickup truck slammed into her vehicle. The crash impact threw everyone out of the truck.

Ms Chaliew and her family all sustained injuries, with her husband and a 14-year-girl hurt the worst.
