Their Majesties the King and Queen have donated 5 million baht to help flood victims in Myanmar as the death toll from monsoonal flooding continued to rise.

Their Majesties donated the cash through the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation on Friday to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The government also donated 5 million baht to its neighbour on Monday and Foreign Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn handed over the money to Myanmar's ambassador to Thailand Win Muang.

At least 88 people have been killed in heavy rainfall and flooding across Myanmar since late last month, the German Press Agency quoted the Myanmar government as saying Friday.

Monsoon rains had killed more than 4,650 cattle and destroyed more than 520,000 acres of farmland across 12 states, according to the Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Ministry.

River water is still at dangerously high levels in low-lying regions of Myanmar as storm runoff flow down from higher northern elevations where the conditions are worst, authorities said.

China and India were the first to send aid workers to Myanmar on Thursday, the Democratic Voice of Burma reported on Friday.

The Indian air force sent two C-130 planes carrying sacks of rice, medicine and other relief supplies, while 14 trucks from China crossed the border in Yunnan province with shelters and necessities to help the flooded victims in Shan state.

The European Commission and United States also were providing Myanmar with aid to help some of the estimated 3 million people affected.
