HM the King recovers

His Majesty the King has recovered from increased cerebrospinal fluid and lung inflammation, the Royal Household Bureau said Monday.

Royal doctors asked His Majesty the King to return from Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan to Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok for a check-up with specialised equipment on May 31. Tests found an increase in cerebrospinal fluid.

Doctors gradually adjusted the discharge of the fluid and brain scans showed it gradually dropped in July.

The bureau also stated that, during his stay at Siriraj Hospital, His Majesty had a high fever at times, significant phlegm, and faster breathing and pulse. Doctors assumed it resulted from previous lung inflammation which also reduced blood-oxygen levels.

Doctors treated His Majesty the King with chest therapy to eliminate the phlegm. Doctors also gave decongestants and oxygen to His Majesty.

Chest x-rays found no signs of inflammation. Folliow-up tests showed the King's pulse decreased to a normal rate. His breathing also slowed close to a normal pace and blood pressures returned to normal.

A brain scan on Aug 5 found that cerebrospinal fluid had dropped and nearly reached previous levels. Doctors decided to maintain chest therapy until phlegm fell to a normal level, the Royal Household Bureau stated.

Earlier, Their Majesties the King and the Queen stayed in Hua Hin from May 10-31.
