The black-magic con man Harn Raksajit, alias Nane Ae, has been put into jail again for defrauding and sexually abusing a woman by claiming that he could restore her sexual charm to bring back her estranged American husband.

Harn, 55, was apprehended at Ban Poklon monastery in Ban Mi district of Lop Buri around 6.30pm on Friday and taken back to Nonthaburi, said Provincial Police Region 1 chief Amnuay Nimnano during a police press conference in Nonthaburi on Friday night.

The suspect was just released from jail four months ago on the same charges.

The arrest came after a 40-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, had filed a complaint with Nonthaburi police on June 19 that the con man had defrauded and sexually abused her, said Pol Lt Gen Amnuay.

She told police that she had gone to Harn’s house in tambon Bang Krang of Nonthaburi’s Muang district on April 25 to seek his help after her American husband had left her.

Harn had told the woman that his black magic could bring back her husband. He said he would perform a ritual by pouring a love potion on her forehead, tongue and breasts to boost her sexual charm. On top of this, she must have sex with him as a final stage of this ritual. He had asked 50,000 baht for ritual fees.

He told her that her husband would surely return to her in one week after the black-magic rites were performed.

The woman had been duped into believing the man. Harn had performed his rites at the woman’s condominium room in tambon Bang Si Muang area of Nonthaburi’s Muang district on April 27.

After a week, her husband did not return to her, prompting the woman to contact Harn. He insisted that her husband would come back. Months passed and there were no signs that her husband would return. The woman had tried unsuccessfully to contact Harn, prompting her to file the complaint with Bang Si Muang police who later caught him in Lop Buri.

Pol Lt Gen Amnuay said the suspect denied all charges during the interrogation. However, the victim insisted the man had asked her to have sex with him and pay him 50,000 baht for ritual rites.

The suspect is being held in police custody. Police will today send him to the Nonthaburi Court for detention.

Harn, better known as Nane Ae, had been released from jail after receiving a royal pardon on April 10. He was sentenced in July 2011, after 33 women accused him of cheating them. Some said he sexually abused them. He claimed he had supernatural powers and was able to bring good fortune through black magic.

Earlier, Harn had been odained as a novice at Wat Nong Rakam in Saraburi province. He had refused to be ordained as a monk when he reached the age to enter the monkhood. Instead, he had opted to study black magic from a Khmer occultist. Many of Harn's clients were distressed women whose husbands had gone astray.

Nane Ae came to national attention in September 1995 when he was defrocked and sentenced by the Saraburi Court to one year in jail on a charge of committing an indecent act on a corpse.

The court heard Harn had grilled a baby's body to extract oil to make a love potion.
