The main event was in Bangkok where His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn led cyclists along the 43-kilometre route from the Royal Plaza through Bangkok streets to the 11th Infantry Regiment in Bang Khen.

In the provinces, the event was led by governors along their own designated routes.

A ceremony was held in front of the statue of King Rama V to launch the event, attended by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, cabinet ministers, members of the National Legislative Assembly and National Reform Council, high-ranking military, police and civilian officials and the general public.

Following the ceremony, the Crown Prince led cyclists in Group A as they took off from the starting point. Earlier on Sunday morning, Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thawornsiri, the police spokesman and assistant police chief, inspected security preparations at the Metropolitan Police's traffic control centre.

He said more than 9,000 policemen had been deployed to provide security along the 43-kilometre cycling route. Cyclists had been told to prepare raincoats for possible rain.
