Customs Dept nets B1bn in seized-vehicles auctions

The Customs Department has earned more than 1 billion baht from two auctions of seized vehicles this year, said department chief Somchai Sajjapong.

In the latest auction on Aug 25-26, 535 confiscated vehicles were put on the block. The department sold 480 of them -- 380 cars and 100 motorcycle - collecting 670 million baht.

Fetching the highest price was a black 2006 Rolls-Royce Phantom, which started bidding at 6.8 million baht and sold for of 25 million baht. Second was the 17.1 million baht sale price of a brown 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo, which started at 11.8 million baht. A red 2002 Ferrrari 458 sold for 16.5 million baht, up from its 5.8-million-baht opening bid.

In an earlier auction, the department raised 337.1 million baht.
