Man dies in paramotor crash

A 40-year-old man died after his paramotor crashed to the ground during a flying practice in Sai Noi district of Nonthaburi on Saturday.

The body of the man, identified later as Viroj Kittiwithayarom, of Nong Khaem district in Bangkok, was found lying face-up in a field in tambon Sai Yai of Sai Noi district, said Pol Lt Wutthikit Buanuan, a duty officer at the Sai Noi police station, who was alerted around 11am on Saturday.

The man, wearing a grey T-shirt, jeans and white canvas shoes, had suffered multiple bone fractures including broken arms and a broken leg, Thai media reported on Saturday.

A police investigation found that Viroj and his friends went to the area every weekend to practise flying with the motorised parasailing craft.

The man had arrived at the practice site early and had begun to do some flying. When his friends arrived, they found his body on the ground, still harnessed to the paramotor. He was believed to have died instantly.

Police suspected the paramotor might have developed a problem during the flight but they need to conduct further investigations of the device.
