5 Sutthisan police shifted after pub raid

Five senior police officers at the Sutthisan police station in Bangkok have been transferred to inactive posts after a local pub was found operating beyond legal hours and serving underage customers.

The transfer order was issued after Interior Ministry officials and Sutthisan police raided the Ban Mai Daeng Sadsaengduen pub in Chatuchak district at 1.50am on Saturday and found many customers aged below 20.

Pub manager Jian Inchurat was arrested and  charged with operating beyond legal hours, selling alcohol beyond legal hours, and allowing customers aged below 20 to enter the premises.

Authorities have been stepping up the campaign against underage drinking, empowered by an order under Section 44 of the military-drafted interim constitution, which grants them sweeping powers.

The transfer order was signed by Pol Maj Gen Korkiat Wongsumet, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2.

The officers transferred were Pol Col Khomsan Taenjui, chief of Sutthisarn police station; Pol Lt Col Thanupong Saengsua, deputy suppression chief; Pol Lt Col Surapong Pudkhao, investigation chief; Pol Lt Col Thanwit Saengthong, crime suppression chief; and Pol Capt Yutthana Ratphaet, deputy investigation chief. They have been moved to "assist with work" at the Division 2 office.
