Apprehensive men are being offered electrically shielded underpants on the off-chance that radiation from a mobile phone in the trouser pocket could be detrimental to their fertility.
That is the so far unproven idea behind Wireless Armour, a new product that British entrepreneur Joseph Perkins maintains will keep 99.9% of allegedly dangerous electromagnetic radiation away from the groin.
A German underwear maker, Ceceba, similarly offers a line called "eProtect" with silver webbing woven into the frontal area.
Information from Germany's Radiation Protection Authority suggests this new clothing trend is unnecessary. In a 2013 report, it said there is no scientific proof whatever that mobile phones cause male infertility.
