French tourist dies in waterfall plunge

A French tourist has been killed and another seriously injured after the pair fell off a steep waterfall on Koh Samui while trekking on a path that is notorious for fatal accidents.

Jeremy Marratche, 22, was on Monday taken to hospital on the island in Surat Thani with serious injuries, while rescuers spent more than two hours retrieving the body of his 24-year-old friend, Florian Bourdla, 24, at Na Muang waterfall.

An initial inspection found Bourdla had succumbed to a severe head injury while Mr Marratche sustained a broken leg, hand and ribs in the accident.

He has been referred to Bangkok Hospital Samui.
