New 3-year driving ban for revoked licence

New 3-year driving ban for revoked licence

People who have their driving licence revoked are barred from applying for a new one for three years under a new Land Transport Department regulation.

The three-year ban went into effect on Tuesday.

The aim of the ban was to keep reckless drivers off the roads and prevent traffic accidents, LTD deputy chief Suchart Klinsuwan said.

When the three-year ban expires,  the offender must must retake the driving test to get a new licence.

The test includes four hours of traffic law and safe driving education, response time and eyesight checks, and an actual driving skill test. The person reapplying for a revoked licence will also undergo an  additional three-hour driving behaviour adjustment session.
