Bangkok was hit by a heavy evening thunderstorm on Thursday that made the rush hour traffic worse than normal, while flooding was reported in the ground-level parking area of Don Mueang airport.

Local media said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Department of Drainage and Sewerage had reported little to moderate rainfall at 7pm in Dusit, Huay Kwang, Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Din Daeng, Sai Mai, Bang Sue, Lak Si, Chatuchak, Don Muang, Ramkhamhaeng and some areas on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya river.

But the rain quickly grew heavier, worsening conditions on already traffic-clogged, busy areas such as Asoke, Ram Intra, Rama 9, Ramkhamhaeng, Ratchadapisek and Ladprao.

Flooding was reported in some areas of Don Muang, Vibhavadi Rangsit, Bang Khen and Ram Intra. Photos on the Twitter page of Jor Sor 100 traffic radio station showed cars struggling to get through floodwaters on the ground-level of Don Mueang airport’s parking lot.

Traffic in some parts of city was still bad at 10 pm, according to FM 91 Traffic Pro radio station.

The Meteorological Department said Bangkok will experience scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain until Saturday.

For the three days after that, there will be widely scattered to scattered thundershowers.
