Crime buster kills boss after getting low grades

A crime suppression police officer left angry after receiving very low evaluation scores for a pay rise shot dead his immediate boss while he was eating at a table in Roi Et’s Muang district on Friday morning.

The shooting occurred near a traffic police booth in Muang municipality area around 9.40am on Friday, in full view of other police, Thai media reported.

As Pol Lt Col Peerawat Phumpitak, 45, crime suppression chief at Phon Thong police station, and his staff were having a meal after a meeting, his deputy, Pol Lt Prawit Thonthong, 56, drove up and parked near the booth. He got out, walked towards his commander and then fired two shots at him.

Pol Lt Col Peerawat immediately dived under the table, seeking cover, but his deputy did not stop, ducking down and firing four more shots at his boss, killing him.

Pol Lt Prawit fled in his car, but shortly afterwards turned himself in at Sawang poice station in the same province.

He confessed he was very upset at Pol Lt Col Peerawat because his commander gave him very low evaluation scores, below the norm, and often criticised his work.

Police later took him back to the scene for a re-enactment of the crime.
