Three men were killed and another seriously injured when a customised pickup truck rammed into the signpost at a weighbridge station at high speed on the outskirts of Chachoengsao township late on Monday night, police said.

Pol Lt Chaichan Pimchan, of Muang district police station, said the accident occurred about 11pm at the Bang Phai weighbridge on the in-bound side of Highway 304 (Kabin Buri - Chachoengsao) between kilometres 78-79, about 6 kilometres from the provincial town.

Witnesses told police the souped-up black Toyota Vigo pickup was travelling very fast as it approached  the weigh station and smashed into the concrete signpost at the entry.

The crash was so violent the vehicle broke apart, with pieces seen flying from the main body in all directions.

Rescuers called to the scene cut open the wreckage and found two men dead on the back seat and one in the front passenger seat. The man behind the steering wheel was still alive, but grievously injured.

Only one victim had been identified, fatally injured Apithep Loonla, 28, of Muang district of Nong Bua Lamphu province.
