Motorists and commuters who use Phahon Yothin Road can expect heavy congestion as several sections have been closed to make way for construction of the Green Line.

The mass transit line from Mo Chit in Bangkok to Khu Khot in Phathum Thani will take three years to complete, Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) governor Peerayuth Singpattanakul said.

Mr Peerayuth said motorists and commuters should be vigilant on the road as lane closures and traffic diversions will be in place on the route when the flyover crossing at Kasetsart University intersection is torn down this Saturday.

The crossing will be closed to traffic on Friday at 10pm, he said.

The MRTA governor said his subordinates and authorities at the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration are working on a plan to handle heavy traffic volumes on Phahon Yothin Road.

A total of eight sections of the road will be closed to traffic during the demolition work, Mr Peerayuth said.

They are: The first section, between Phahon Yothin Soi 53 to the office of the Department of Agriculture Extension, covering a total distance of 1,500 metres; the second section, in front of 11th Infantry Regiment King's Guard, covering a distance of 660 metres.

The third section is between Phahon Yothin Soi 57 and Soi 61 with a total distance of 740 metres and the fourth section is between Phahon Yothin Soi 67 and Soi 69, with a total distance of 630 metres will be closed.

The fifth section, in front of Ying Charoen market, covers a distance of 510 metres; the sixth section is between Navaminda Kasetriyadhiraj Royal Air Force Academy and the Kor Por Aor intersection; seventh section is between the Kor Por Aor intersection and the Bangkok Gate Plaza; and the eighth section, between Khu Khot police station and the Shell petrol station.

The first to the sixth sections were closed Tuesday, while the seventh and the eighth section will be closed next Tuesday at 10pm, Mr Peerayuth said.

Road closures and traffic diversions are subject to change over the three years of the demolition work, so motorists should be aware, Mr Peerayuth said.

He said motorists and commuters should monitor news about traffic management updates on the road.

Commuters can call 02 716 4044 for further information about the road closures, he said.
