Rain on way across country till Sunday

Rainfall will continue to hit most parts of Thailand from today until Sunday as a monsoon trough strengthens in the upper part of the country.

Provinces in the North and Northeast will encounter the next round of rainfall today and tomorrow while those in the Central Plains and the East will experience the same over the weekend, according to the Meteorology Department.

The prolonged wet weather is a result of high pressure over central China which is expected to reach its southern region and northern Vietnam today.

This will lead to a strengthening of the monsoon trough across Thailand, the department said.

The forecasters issued a fresh warning about widespread rainfall and, in some areas, heavy downpours.

Provinces especially in the North, the East and the Central Plains were hit by rainfall brought by tropical depression Mujigae earlier this week.

Soldiers nationwide have been told to stay alert for possible floods, said deputy army chief Col Sirichan Ngathong.
