Polish man found hanged in Phuket

A middled-aged Polish man was found hanged inside a rented house in Phuket’s Thalang district with slash wounds to his left wrist.

The dead man was reported to be in his mid-50s. His name was withheld.

He had a nylon rope around his neck with the other end tied to a roof beam at the rear of a one-storey house at Soi Khok Tanod 10 in tambon Cherng Talay in Thalang district, Pol Lt Sunan Phetnoo, a duty officer at Cherng Talay police station, said.

The body was discovered on Thursday afternoon.

Police and rescue workers sent to the scene reported the man was wearing a dark grey T-shirt and grey shorts, and had slash wounds to his left wrist. There were no traces of a struggle in the house and his belongings remained untouched, Thai media reported on Friday.

Two small, empty whiskey bottles and another partially consumed bottle were found inside the house.

Police believed he had been dead at least one day before his body was discovered by a nearby resident.

Investigators said the man had lived in the house for three years. He did not have a business in Thailand, but had income from rental buildings in Poland.

The man had a Thai girlfriend who had stayed with him for about six months but she broke off the relationship and left the house a few days previously. Police speculated the man was upset, tried to slash his wrists and then hanged himself, according to Thai media.

His body was sent to Thalang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities were contacting the Polish consulate so the man's relatives could be informed.
