HRH Princess Sirindhorn visits Kanchanaburi

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn led members of the Prince Mahidol Award Committee to visit Kanchanaburi by train on Friday for a three-day study tour, delighting local residents and officials waiting to catch a glimpse of the beloved princess.

HRH Princess Sirindhorn and committee members boarded a special train at Chitralada Royal Railway Station, departing at 11.30am.

The train was scheduled to stop at Nakhon Pathom railway station for about 20 minutes where the princess would pay a visit to the Phra Pathom Chedi and nearby communities.

Another stop was at the Nong Pladuk railway station in Ratchaburi's Ban Pong district where the princess would spend about 10 minutes studying the way of life for residents along both sides of the station. The last stop was River Kwai railway station.

On the trip that runs through Sunday, the princess is scheduled to vist Muang Sing Historic Park, the River Kwai Bridge, Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetery, a welfare centre for the elderly, the provincial cultural office, Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, Ban Kao National Museum, and Saiyok National Park.

Security measures were beefed up along the route.

In Kanchanaburi, Thais and foreign tourists on Friday flocked to the River Kwai railway station to greet the princess.
