Two members of a loan sharking gang are being hunted after shots were fired at woman’s house in Pathum Thani, and arrest warrants are being sought for nine more of the gangsters.

Pol Maj Gen Montri Yimyaem, chief of Pathum Thani police, said the home of 56-year-old Kamlai Buakaew, a vendor and seamstress, came under attack by gunmen in the early hours of Sunday.

Bullets smashed the glass door on the ground floor and some windows on the floor above, but fortunately no one was hit.

Police investigators learned that 11 men collecting debts for a major loan shark in Nonthaburi province were involved.

Police have obtained arrest warrants for two of the men, who were reported to have fled outside the province, and were searching for them. Applications were being filed for arrest warrants for the other nine suspects.

According to Thai media, Mrs Kamlai had borrowed 4,000 baht from a loan shark identified by his name card as ‘’Namwan’’. He charged 20% interest a month and she was told she must pay daily instalments of 200 baht. She had paid only four days and then stopped because her goods were not selling well and she had no money.

Debt collectors had gone to her house every day demanding payment, but she told them she had no money. The gangsters had threatened her, warning of dire events if she did not repay the loan plus interest.
