Thung Non Son in Phitsanulok, one of the country’s 10 most beautiful and abundant flower fields, has reopened to tourists after being closed for one year to allow for wild flower restoration.

Clusters of wild flowers and plants of more than 50 species, plus the cool weather in Thung Non Son, part of Thung Salaeng Luang national park, have drawn many tourists who set up tents at this savanna grass field mixed with mountain pine trees, where the temperature was 16 degrees celsius on Sunday.

The national park recently reopened the field after closing it for a year as many flower species were damaged.

Prasert Deekaew, a senior official at Thung Salaeng Luang national park, said wild flower species in the field had been badly damaged due to the high number of visitors in past years, prompting authorities to close it for one year to allow for flower restoration.

After the closure, flower species and plants were rapidly revived, said Mr Prasert. The national park then reopened the field to tourists to see beautiful flower species and study wild plants, but this year the number of visitors was limited to not more than 40 people per trip. Flowers reach full boom during October and December every year.

To go to the field via Rak Thai village in Phitsanulok’s Noen Maprang district, tourists travel for 8km by car and trek for another 8km to the field.
