Illegal rubber farms seized in Petchabun forest

About 1,000 rai of illegally occupied forest land in Phetchabun’s Nong Phai district has been seized from investors who planted the area in rubber trees.

A combined team of forestry officers, police and soldiers raided the two farmed areas - a 368 rai rubber plantation and a 639 rai  rubber and oil palm plantation - in tambon Bo  Thai on Tuesday, Thai media reported on Wednesday.

The reclaimed land is part of Huay Thin and Huay Teep forest reserves and had been encroached on by the developers, who were not present during the raid. Buildings had also been put up on the land.

Officials said the rubber trees on the seized land were about five years old.
