Heavy rain that hit parts of Sankhaburi district of Chai Nat province on Monday night caused the bank of the Noy river to collapse, damaging a riverside road and pulling down many houses.

Hardest hit were villages in tambons Don Kam, Bang Khut and Pho Ngam.

Kanit Iamrahong, the provincial governor, on Tuesday afternoon visited tambon Don Kam where the house of Krisda Duangpan, 28, in Moo 11 village, slid into the Noy river after the bank collapsed.

The road along the Noy river was damaged at three spots for 40-50 metres, making it impassable to vehicles.

Mr Kanit order local government agencies to provide emergency assistance to the affected people and keep the situation under watch around the clock.
