Train derails in Kanchanaburi, all passengers safe

KANCHANABURI -- A local train running on the Sai Yok-Nam Tok route, known as the Death Railway, derailed in Sai Yok district on Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

The train No 485 derailed at kilometre marker 192/8, between Nong Pladuk and Nam Tok railway stations in tambon Thasao, said Lt Kla Waenkhrua, head of Surasri military camp’s community relations team in Sai Yok district.

He received a report of the accident from local residents around 8.25am and immediately informed local railway authorities.

The train, with seven carriages, had left Nong Pladuk railway station in Ratchaburi’s Ban Pong district for Nam Tok railway station in Sai Yok district.  As it approached tambon Thasao, the second carriage derailed, with two wheels leaving the track.

All 70 passengers on board, Thais and foreign visitors, were safe. Railway officials arranged vehicles to take them to their destinations.

The cause of the derailment was being investigated.
