Juvenile rehab camps planned for 10 NE provinces

SURIN -- Young delinquents will be put through a rehabilitation programme at military camps in 10 Northeast province under a new scheme being implemented by the Central Juvenile and Family Court and the Suranaree Task Force.

A meeting at the Suranaree Force headquarters at Weerawatyothin military camp in Muang district of Surin province on Wednesday discussed implementing the programme in the northeastern provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani and Amnat Charoen.    

Alek Chanyasapkij, chief justice of the Central Juvenile and Family Court, and Maj Gen Sonthaya Sricharoen, commander of the Suranaree Force, were among those attending the meeting.

Mr Alek said that juveniles who had committed offences such theft and drug abuse would attend a five-day rehabilitation programme at a military camp.

The programme, which will be inoperation soon, is intended to correct negative behaviour, instill patriotism, moral principles and discipline, and provide them with occupational training so they can mingle well with other people in society, he said.
