Popular TV actor Tridsadee "Por" Sahawong remains in a coma after suffering dengue haemorrhagic fever but has made some progress, making eye and hand movements, and he can breathe a little on his own, Ramathibodi Hospital said on Wednesday.

"Now, the patient’s condition is improving. He has been able to open his eyes in recent days. Muscle relaxants are not being given to him," doctors said in a statement issued at a media briefing.

"He can breathe a little on his own, but still needs a respirator. He is able to move his hands. Blood circulation stimulants are not being administered now. Blood was also not given after surgery. This is a good sign."

The 37-year-old actor suffered severe bleeding at the alimentary tract on Tuesday, causing a drastic change in his blood pressure. Doctors operated to stem rectal bleeding.

The hospital said rumours the actor's other foot was being amputated were not true. The blood circulation in his right foot was still good.

Tridsadee's infected left foot was amputated above the ankle after he developed uncontrollable high blood pressure on Friday night. He also had bleeding in the left pleural cavity and underwent surgery on Saturday night.

The hospital said his body was now free of the dengue virus, but he still required treatment for critical complications such as acute renal failure and infection, and was being cared for in the hospital's coronary care unit (CCU). He is still being given antibiotics and nutrients, and is on a kidney purifier.

The actor was admitted to Ramathibodi Hospital on Nov 9 with severe dengue fever.
