A picture of a scaffold builder on the glistening spire of the "Temple of Dawn" taken by Post Today photographer Krit Promsaka na Sakolnakorn has won first prize in the category of “general social and political issues” at this year’s Media Photographers Association awards.

The sky-high picture, titled “Restoring Wat Arun”, was taken on May 1 as the Fine Arts Department was implementing the second phase of a three-year 40-million-baht restoration project for Wat Arun Ratchawararam, or the Temple of Dawn, on the banks of the Chao Phraya river.

Krit received a trophy and a cash reward of 30,000 baht.

Another picture titled “Snail Spa” taken by Bangkok Post photographer Chanat Katanyu won second runner-up prize in the category of economics. The photo shows a customer receiving facial beauty treatment with snails at a spa in Chiang Mai.

Also in this category, Post Today photographer Prakit Chantawong and Bangkok Post photographer Pattanapong Hirunard earned honourable mentions for their work.

Patarapong Chatpattarasill of the Bangkok Post received an honourable mention in the sports category with his picture titled “Celebration”, showing thousands of well-wishers greeting the nation's football players on an open-top, double-deck bus in a parade in central Bangkok late last year.

The contest drew 460 entries from professional media photographers.
