Protesting students forced the cancellation of classes at a Samut Prakan high school on Tuesday as they demanded the resignation of the campus over questions about the institute’s administration.

About 1,000 pupils refused to attend classes and gathered at on open area of Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School in Bang Sao Thong district, calling for Nonglak Ruangthong to quit.

The youths linked Ms Nonglak to alleged irregularities in several school projects and activities, such as scholarship, collection of drinking water and cleaning fees, and donation for a Buddhist monk robe-donation ceremony.

The protesters wanted Ms Nonglak to clarify the matters, but she reportedly refused to address the students. Thirty police officers were deployed to maintain order as the protest continued.

The group agreed to disperse and return home in the afternoon after a meeting with Theerawat Wannanuch, director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 6, who promised to launch an investigation into the allegations.

Mr Theerawat said any transfer of Ms Nonglak would proceed according to regulations.
